Llangennech AFC Juniors

The village of Llangennech is one of the largest in Carmarthenshire and with approximately 1000 children living here the potential for junior football is staggering.  Recently, Llangennech AFC set out to take advantage of this and has a long term plan of having Junior teams from Under 6's all the way through to Under 16's and onto Youth and Adult football.

The club's first junior team was started in the mid-nineties and has provided many of today's senior players despite not being hugely successful on the field in their junior days.   It was a similar story with the junior side that started as Under 14's in 2002.  This goes to show the importance of the Club's Junior Section to the Senior's long term stability.

In the summer of 2007 the Committee of Llangennech AFC agreed to host an open Junior Training Morning to gauge the interest in Junior Football within the village.  The response was phenomenal particularlly with the under 6's players who had enough players for two teams on the first day of training!

The club made the obvious decision to keep training throughout the summer and by the time the league season started in October, we were able to enter 3 new teams at mini-football level.

We also appointed a Chairman, Glen Graydon, Junior Secretary, Helen Williams, Welfare Officer, Mark Thomas and Treasurer, Sandra Williams who have done a tremendous job in maintaining things since the summer.  The club is currently working towards its' FAW Bronze award which means that we have to meet certain criteria set out by the FAW Trust.  This is challenging for those involved with the club but ensures very good standards for our young players.

The aim now is to build on what we've got year by year and ensure a steady stream of well trained youngsters for our senior team.
